Painted Pampas Grass Decor

by - 23:32:00

Okay so full disclosure, I stole a bunch of grass from my neighbour the other day (not the bad kind of grass - although it's totally legal in Canada now) it was pampas grass used in landscaping. My neighbour put out a whole bunch of grass clippings to the curb and I couldn't help but notice how beautiful they were. I asked my neighbour if I could grab a bunch and they didn't mind. In today's project I'm sharing how I transformed those clippings into painted pampas grass decor for my home!

When I got married 7 years ago I had this idea to make my own centerpieces out of babies breath, everyone thought I was crazy but they looked beautiful. I've recently noticed a decor trend using landscape grasses.  I can only imagine what my family would say if I decided to use grass from the side of the road for my wedding centerpieces. I can't help but love it though, it looks incredible. I decided to make some painted pampas grass decor for my home.

Krylon Canada partnered with me on this project, it is my third DIY with Krylon highlighting their Tiffany Pratt Collections, you may have caught my paint dipped foyer basket from the Spring or my DIY Outdoor Chandelier from the Summer. This time we're highlighting the incredible colours in the Fall Collection.

I loved the pampas grass as is and I have seen it used oh natural but I kinda wanted a monochromatic look for an arrangement in my home. I decided to pull out my Krylon spray paint in Matte Surf. I tested out the spray paint on the pampas grass and I was pleasantly surprised. The feathery ends stayed feathery and the paint was just enough to keep the fluff from falling off the stems.

I love the way this one turns out! Now my only problem is getting up the courage to ask my neighbour for some more pampas grass.

Plus, Check out how I decorated with pampas grass for the holidays!

  4. Hi! If we spray paint the grass now, in March, once the paint dries, will it store just as easy as it would without paint applied? Our daughter's wedding is July 1, this year, so we need to do as much as we can to get prepared, now...

    1. hmm, good question, I would test it. It should work. Be sure not to spray too much paint otherwise the grasses will get crunchy and might stick together while in storage.
