A few weeks ago we chatted about plaster and it being a hot new trend in interior design, everything from tables to vases to candlesticks. With it's cool white hues and chalky texture it's easy to see why people are loving plaster. Plaster can elevate any space and take it to the coast of California. Today we're sharing an easy idea to make some plaster accents for your home specifically DIY mid century plaster candlestick holders. The best part of this DIY is that the mold is made from recycled materials so be sure to use what's in your recycling bin, they'll be a great conversation starter at your next dinner party.

Here the things you'll need: Plaster of Paris, water, recycled plastic cups, small plastic bowls, coconut oil cooking spray, white glue and extra strength epoxy.

We learned a few key tips while making these plaster candlesticks. First, be sure to spray your molds, in this case recycled plastic cups, with some sort of cooking spray. I used a coconut oil spray (be careful not to spray too much, it will change the consistency of the plaster). Next, add white glue to your plaster mixture to make it stronger. Plaster is inherently crumby and susceptible to chips and dents, the white glue gives it a bit more strength. After mixing the plaster and pouring it into the molds I let them set overnight. After removing the plaster from the molds I simply glued them together with some extra strength epoxy.
