Bathroom Renovation with a DIY Towel Ring Holder

by - 22:31:00

We're bringing you this fun little bathroom makeover because it's long overdue and we've got a fun DIY to go with it. To be honest, it wasn't until I made this cute DIY towel ring holder that I got excited to write about the bathroom renovation overall. It was very much a spur of the moment renovation decision which doesn't always work. I usually have a fully thought-out moodboard, 3d rendering and finishing selections but with this renovation it was different. My husband hired the tiler to come in, start demo and I had a day to choose tile. Sometimes jumping in and flying by the seat of your pants works and sometimes it doesn't. We got lucky with this one lol.

Here is the bathroom before. I'm not going to the lie, the wallpaper had it's charm and I'm secretly in love with enclosed showers however it was in need of a refresh:

The best part of this bathroom makeover was that it was fairly inexpensive and fairly quick to turnaround. Here are some key tips for an inexpensive bathroom renovation:
1. Keep the existing footprint.
2. Keep the existing vanity and replaced the countertop (note, we added a large bevelled edge to the countertop to add height plus it made it look like a chic slab sink).
3. Maximize natural light. Tearing down the existing enclosed shower and adding a glass pony wall really helped make the space feel larger.

We originally wanted to have a full glass wall instead of the pony wall but the back wall was too shallow to hold the shower faucet so we decided to install the faucet on a pony wall which worked out well because now we have somewhere to set our shampoo.

Okay now onto the fun DIY towel ring holder that inspired this post. Seriously, I love this project and I will probably make a few more (and I might try some different variations so stay tuned... did I hear a request for plaster?? yep I'm on it). I do think I need to find a way to make it a bit heavier so if you have any ideas be sure to drop a comment below.

Here are the things you'll need: Styrofoam rings from the dollar store, marble shelf liner from the dollar store, faux leather, scissors, hot glue and a decorative tac.

I simply cut a few thin strips of the marble shelf liner and wrapped it around the medium styrofoam ring. This was tricky at first and I had to play with it a bit. I found that cutting smaller strips worked best. Don't get discourage with a few small creases you won't notice them in the end. Finally I cut a piece of faux leather and used hot glue to fasten the seam. I adhered it to the wall with a nail and covered the nail head with a decorative tac.
