DIY Juju Hat

I've been wanting a juju hat for some time however I couldn't stomach the cost of an authentic one. So I decided to do what I do best and figure out how to DIY a juju hat at half the cost.

Here are the things you'll need. Most importantly be sure to get the right feathers. You'll need strung rooster neck feathers which can be purchased from Moonlight Feathers Inc on Esty. I purchased 3 packages (1 yard each). I also used a round placemat, a rubber drawer liner, a wire hanger and of course hot glue.

First layout your feathers to confirm the size of your juju hat. Mine ended up around 1.5 ft.

I glued my two shelf liners together and cut them into a circle according to my estimates
(eg 1ft in diameter)

Then I glued my string off feathers along the perimeter of the round shelf liner.

Squish them into the liner a bit. I put some wax paper underneath.

Once the outside was finished I started on the next ring.
Be sure to alternate the curve of the feathers on each ring to add extra texture.

I glued a wire hanger on the back to add stability and provide a hook for hanging.
I then covered this with the place-mat to finish it off.

Glue in a few left over feathers to fill any gaps.
So easy to make your own juju hat!

What do you think? I'm in love.
