Modern Holiday Home: DIY Lantern With Picture Frames

by - 08:59:00

Happy Friday friends! Well it's that time again for another edition of the #modernholidayhome series. This week we're working with Krylon Canada on some fun DIY projects. I put together this great DIY Christmas Lantern using picture frames from the dollar store. I added some tassels because, really, tassels make everything better.

If this is your first time reading about this series I'll fill you in, I've partnered with some amazing Canadian DIY bloggers for a great series called the Modern Holiday Home where we each share a fun holiday project each week for five weeks (We're in week 3 so you can catch up here; Week 1 Christmas tote, Week 2 Deer print serving board).

Be sure to check out the other bloggers in the Modern Holiday Home series; Colleen from Lemon Thistle, Thalita from The Learner Observer, Lindi from Love Create Celebrate and Gemma from The Sweetest Digs.

Here are the things I used to create this DIY lantern project; 4 dollar store frames, 8 hinges, 8 mini screws (usually come with the hinges), embroidery thread for the tassels and Krylon Champagne Nouveau Spray Paint.

First I removed the glass from the frames. Then I screwed the frames together using two hinges on each frame.

Then I sprayed the wood using Krylon Champagne Nouveau. Finally I drilled one hold in the top of each frame (note, I should have done this at the beginning), made some tassels (according to these DIY Tassel instructions), tied them onto the frame and put the glass back in.

    1. Thanks Lindi! I love lanterns (kind of an obsession) and they could really work all year round.
