Think about your space, the use of the space and what speaks to you the most\u0026nbsp;about\u0026nbsp;it. Perhaps it's a giant bay window or a unique fireplace that you want to highlight or hide. Write down some notes about what you want to\u0026nbsp;achieve\u0026nbsp;and some adjectives about how you want the space to feel. It can be an old postcard, a trendy necklace or even a\u0026nbsp;piece\u0026nbsp;of drift wood. Inspiration can spring from just about anywhere. I was pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of inspiration items in the design kit from Flooring Canada; a gorgeous yellow throw, a blue mug, a paint fan and some colour swatches. Putting it all out on a table in front of you can really help draw your eye to what you’re attracted to and what naturally goes together. And since\u0026nbsp;Flooring is such an\u0026nbsp;integral\u0026nbsp;element in a space it is important to get it right. I always start from the bottom and work my way up when I create my moodboards. You can always go back and\u0026nbsp;change\u0026nbsp;it but this is a great starting point and lays a foundation for the space overall. For my bunkie moodboard I was able to select from a few different\u0026nbsp;samples\u0026nbsp;that Flooring Canada sent me. Flooring Canada carries a wide range of flooring in varying styles, colours and product types. Since I wanted my bunkie to have a\u0026nbsp;beach feel I wanted a light coloured floor\u0026nbsp;preferably in a hardwood or a luxury vinyl plank. Hardwood flooring has beauty and strength and vinyl plank flooring offers an elegant appearance with enduring value. I also selected a beautiful carpet sample for the bedroom in the bunkie. It can be perpendicular (everything square and on right angles) or collaged on top of\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003Eeach other\u0026nbsp;or laid out per the space (e.g. with the\u0026nbsp;furniture\u0026nbsp;in roughly the right space in relation to each other). Try different layouts and see what works best for your space. The layout of the moodboard can often convey part of the mood of the space, for example, a right angled\u0026nbsp;rigid\u0026nbsp;lined moodboard can convey a more modern cool space where as a layered moodboard can have a more whimsical cozy feel. In addition, you can layout a moodboard virtually with images online or with actual samples on a white board on your dining room table (as I did with my beach bunkie moodboard). Yes, you can try to put everything you want onto a moodboard but if it the end result doesn\u003C\/span\u003E’\u003Cspan\u003Et give you the look and feel you want then it\u003C\/span\u003E’s not\u0026nbsp;accomplishing it’s job. After all, a moodboard is suppose to create a\u0026nbsp;“mood”. Don’t be\u0026nbsp;afraid to edit and redo. Try different things. Step back and squint (I don’t know why this works but it does). Once you’ve confirmed your moodboard let it be the compass for your project moving forward. With any trinket or accessory you find, if it doesn’t align to your moodboard then it won’t work in the room.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: inherit;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: inherit;\"\u003ESo without further adieu, here is the final moodboard for our beach bunkie, light airy and cohesive. I love the way the greys in the mosaic tile plays off the tones in the flooring samples and how the muted green accent colours hint at the ocean air. To be honest, it wasn't until I made this cute DIY towel ring holder that I got excited to write about the bathroom renovation overall. It was very much a spur of the moment renovation decision which doesn't always work. I usually have a fully thought-out moodboard, 3d rendering and finishing selections but with this renovation it was different. My husband hired the tiler to come in, start demo and I had a day to choose tile. Sometimes jumping in and flying by the seat of your pants works and sometimes it doesn't. Here are some key tips for an inexpensive bathroom renovation:\u003Cbr \/\u003E1. Keep the existing footprint.\u003Cbr \/\u003E2. Keep the existing vanity and replaced the countertop (note, we added a large bevelled edge to the countertop to add height plus it made it look like a chic slab sink).\u003Cbr \/\u003E3. Maximize natural light. Seriously, I love this project and I will probably make a few more (and I might try some different variations so stay tuned... did I hear a request for plaster?? yep I'm on it). I do think I need to find a way to make it a bit heavier so if you have any ideas be sure to drop a comment below.\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EHere are the things you'll need: Styrofoam rings from the dollar store, marble shelf liner from the dollar store, faux leather, scissors, hot glue and a decorative tac.\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI simply cut a few thin strips of the marble shelf liner and wrapped it around the medium styrofoam ring. This was tricky at first and I had to play with it a bit. I found that cutting smaller strips worked best. Don't get discourage with a few small creases you won't notice them in the end. Finally I cut a piece of faux leather and used hot glue to fasten the seam. First, be sure to spray your molds, in this case recycled plastic cups, with some sort of cooking spray. I used a coconut oil spray (be careful not to spray too much, it will change the consistency of the plaster). Next, add white glue to your plaster mixture to make it stronger. Plaster is inherently crumby and susceptible to chips and dents, the white glue gives it a bit more strength. After mixing the plaster and pouring it into the molds I let them set overnight. I suggest having a plan before you go shopping other wise you may purchase a lot of things you don't need.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003EFor the DIY dollhouse bed, weused the small dowels to make a headboard, Popsicle sticks to create the frame and painted the whole thing white. For the linens, we used some scrap fabric and sewed little pillows and a mattress stuffed with cotton balls. You don't need to be an amazing seamstress to do this (it's just sewing a square really). We free hand painted some small wood pieces to create the range door and stove top. We used a plastic bottle cap for the sink and made the faucet with some clay. Something to draw your eye in and give you that feeling of \"wow\".\u0026nbsp; Sometimes it's the centerpiece or the place setting. For this modern cozy holiday tablescape we decided to make our focal point the table runner, more specifically the ends of the table. To create this unique runner we used two \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.kitchenstuffplus.com\/harman-christmas-frosted-check-cotton-poly-tablecloth-multi-colour \" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Eplaid tableclothes\u003C\/a\u003E and one \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.kitchenstuffplus.com\/harman-hemstitch-polyester-70-round-tablecloth-light-grey\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Elight grey table cloth\u003C\/a\u003E from from Kitchen Stuff Plus and tied them together with oversized knots. Then we used some twine to make a garland with some trimmings we found in the backyard. We layered various types of greenery, like spruce, cedar and magnolias leaves onto the garland and heavied up the greens on the ends.
